Sheep Husbandry     £95

All the basics of keeping sheep including plenty of practical, hands on experience guided by experienced shepherds Brian and Dunja.  Comprehensive course handouts provided.

Sheepdog experience £45

Max 6 people

Come and learn the skills to work a sheep dog with Brian and Dunja Roberts on our traditional hill farm in the Black Mountains near Crickhowell. You will accompany Brian on his routine on the farm:

  • check the sheep
  • feed the sheep
  • move the sheep with the help of a working collie
  • learn traditional sheepdog commands
  • have a go at working the dog yourself
  • cake and refreshments in the farmhouse
  • a chance to chat to Brian and Dunja about life on a hill farm

Times:  10 am to 1 pm

Children under the age of 17 must be accompanied by an adult.  A reasonable level of fitness is required.  Please bring suitable footwear and clothing (wellington boots/hiking boots, waterproof jacket).

Lambing 24        £175

Max 6 people

This 24 hour course which runs from 12 noon to 12 noon includes full board and accommodation either in our luxury annexe or studio.  The ewes and their lambs are the main event, with lots of practical experience in the lambing shed including assisting at lambing (dependent on the ewes).  A truly immersive course.  Comprehensive course handouts provided.

  2. Ewe health issues during pregnancy
  3. Where to lamb?
  4. The stages of labour
  5. Common problems at lambing
  6. Care of the newborn lamb
  7. Fostering lambs

General information

Day workshop times are 10am to 4.30pm. All materials, tools and equipment are provided.  Morning and afternoon refreshments are included but please bring a packed lunch.  If you prefer you may go down to the tea rooms in Cwmdu where you will find delicious lunches served!

Half day workshop times are 10am to 1pm or 2pm to 5pm.

Group tuition cost varies depending on the workshop. Individual tuition:  £25 per hour.
